Needham Town Hall Recognized With Multiple Awards
May 2012: MKA was recognized with the 2012 Raymond F. Bosworth Award for Excellence in
Historic Preservation by the Needham Historical Commission for the restoration of
the Needham Town Hall. The Illuminating Engineer Society of North America also
recognized the Town Hall with a 2012 regional and a section award for interior
lighting. MKA led the team of consultants that worked on the
renovation/restoration and addition to the historic 1903 town hall. Ripman
Lighting was in charge of the lighting design.
The project addressed the careful preservation of the original historic building and
all of its remaining original interior architectural features including the restoration
and adaptive use of the original auditorium for civic and cultural assemblies and
performances. A three-story addition on the rear of the existing building
now provides office space for town offices. The restored Great Hall is the center of
community and cultural life in Needham and a preferred venue for performances
and cultural activities.
