Newburyport City Hall receives
Preservation Award
December, 2006:The Newburyport City Hall was awarded the 2006 Preservation Award from the Newburyport Historical Commission in a special ceremony on December 2006 at Newburyport. McGinley Kalsow & Associates LLP designed the restoration program for the Italianate style Newburyport City Hall. The building has been in continuous public use since its construction in 1851. The building is a contributing structure to the National Historic Register District as well as a member of MA Register of Historic Places.
MKA replaced the extremely deteriorated brownstone with new cast stone that carefully matched the original brownstone in configuration, texture and color. Additional work included masonry repairs, copper roof replacement and restoration of the ornate cast iron balcony. Paint analysis was performed to determine original paint colors.
